Sinds 1997 ben ik in het bezit van dit prachtige ras, het is niet alleen het uiterlijk, het karakter, temperament, formaat, maar vooral het uiterlijk van de west highland white terrier dat werkelijk fantastisch is. De levenslust van deze hondjes, het speelse karakter is ideaal vooral als huishond. Het uiterlijk van de hond nodigd kinderen uit tot spelen en knuffelen van de hond. Het behoeft geen betoog dat kinderen die opgroeien met een speelkamaraad daaraan vaak heel prettigen herinneringen overhouden.
Na het behalen van het diploma KKI, ben ik pas overgegaan tot het fokken van een nestje, bij mij is dat een highlight, want slechts 1 maal per jaar in een enkel geval 2 maal per jaar fok ik een nestje, met en ondear begeleiding van mijn dierenarts.

What to look for when buying your westie puppy.
Try to find a reputable breeder, contacting the Breeders club, it’s a better way to find a breeder. Our Breedersclub has a Code of Ethics to the Dutch breeders they have to stick to their Breeding conformity.
Be wary of breders who only use mobile telephone numbers in their ads or who offer to meet you in a garage forecourt for example to hand over the puppy.
Note the age the breeder is willing to let the puppy go at, reputable breeders will normally not let them go until they are at least 8 weeks old, puppyfarmers will let them go from 6 weeks which is to young.
Try to establish if they have any other breeds, it is recommented when they have only one breed in the kennel, they are the real specialist.
Visit the premises to see the puppy before you buy, ask to see the mother, if posible the father (or his pedigree). A healthy westie puppy will be full of pleasure and full of mischief. Eyes should be bright with no discharge. Check the coat for parasites or signs of them, e.g. scabs on the skin.
If you cannot get a puppy immediately from a reputable breeder, please be prepared to wait, do not be tempted to buy from a broadbreeder, you could be buying a lot of trouble for yourself, in some cases the puppy will die a very short time after they go to their new homes. You may have to wait for a puppy from a reliable source but it should be a well-reared, healthy puppy who will be a wonderful addition to your family.
